I am an extraverted, sensitive, rejected Aspie. Besides that I love life and people, especially women. Once a gal has my attention, I over-focus and she heads the other way. I offer way too much information to soon (as you will see).
Fortunately, I did marry and have two wonderful boys, now grown. Unfortunately, divorced (10 yrs) and seldom talk with one of my boys; the other and I talk often and get along very well.
I'm fairly well traveled, love adventure, motorcycling and the woods. The Blue Ridge Parkway along the Appalachian Mountains makes for wonderful trips.
I've been a student for the last three years studying the human body and sleep - Polysomnography. When I moved to East Tennessee in 2005 I had been homeless in Atlanta, GA. The VA put me up, but soon tired of me (3 months) and wanted me to move on. I moved to a dormitory accross the street (ETSU) and began classes. SSDI (Social Security) began a month later.
My last day of work was during the month of 9/11 (2001) and I promised myself I would not return to work until I could learn to not stress-out my boss nor myself. In 2006 I learned of ASD, studied it for a day and seld diagnosed. Officially diagnosed last year. Recently, my newest VA therapist (10 mo) concluded I am totally and permanently disabled.
Now, with having three therapists convinced I am not capable of assimilating back into the work environment I think it prudent I read the writting on the wall. Retired? I can dig it!
But. I'm not ready to throw in the towel, just yet. I am now shopping for an ASD experienced therapist. Wish me luck.

by Laura Paxton 9 months agoLike you, I was diagnosed later in life. I was diagnosed at 37 and I'm 40 now. I found an ASD experienced therapist through a neuropsychiatry clinic. you might look for one in the yellow pages, though they are rare and hard to come by in some areas. You could also look for a referral from your local autism society. I hope that helps!
